Credit Card Payments
Credit Card Payments
What is payment
processing?
Payment transaction processing allows customers to order from you online or in-person with a credit card. If you do not have a processing solution, a website will not enable you to take card payments.
Processors also allow you to stay compliant with credit card laws such as PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards).
Payment processing plays a significant role in shaping the customer experience for businesses, building trust and loyalty.
how does this work for e-commerce?
Website builder platforms (like Squarespace, our choice!) have options to connect third-party softwares like Stripe right into your website. All you have to do is setup an account, and that’s where you will monitor your sales activity.
Most website platforms like Squarespace and Shopify also offer their own payment processor options, saving you from having to setup an account with an external processor.
The processor will take a “transaction fee” from every sale you make, usually 2.9% + $0.30.
What if I’m selling
in person?
*Online processors like Stripe do not work for in-person transactions.
Selling in-person at markets or retail stores requires you to have a different payment processor (think Toast, Clover, Square, etc).
What’s great about website builders like Squarespace for example, is that it allows Square POS to integrate right into your website, so you can process cards through Square while tracking your inventory and sales through the website.
Best of both worlds! Keep your online shop but gain in-person functionality.
