COMMUNITY STORIES: EMILY PRYCE
I come from a family of women who are very talented in art and have creative minds! They always set an example for me to be creative, as well as try many new things in life.
Growing up in this family and near the beach definitely inspired me to not only create jewelry, but create a beach-styled brand.
I have a deep love for children and helping them grow. I have always surrounded myself with little ones whether it be through babysitting or volunteering at church, so becoming a teacher just made sense!
I have been pursuing my business for about six years now, and it has only grown ever since! Now I have expanded from jewelry to also create mosaic picture frames, prayer journals, watercolor greeting cards, and painted mini wooden crosses.
I got bored one day and decided to play around with the various craft materials I found in my room. I have always been a jewelry fanatic, and when I realized I could create jewelry for myself, I figured the only logical thing to do would be to start an entire business with it!
My parents also run their own business and that set the example for me to do the same.
They were happy not only to be selling their work, but also to support each other along the way. During this time, I had a bunch of people hyping me up and pushing me to grow my business.
I loved the atmosphere, and being a part of so many pop-ups was amazing! My goal within the program was to expand my business and make some new friends.
The desk I use in my room is always covered in materials. I don’t ever fully clean and tidy up my space because most days I will walk past my desk and randomly see some materials next to each other and think they look great together… and Boom! That is my inspiration!
I expect to struggle with this a little bit due to my inexperience using an online platform in the past. However, I love the challenge, and I am ready to accept it!
I also envision expanding my business into some local stores so I can reach many areas within Virginia Beach at once.
