COMMUNITY STORIES: MEGAN MILLER
I am a senior at NC State University and have been a part of Student-Made there since the start of my freshman year! I am studying Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Growing up in Newport News meant that I was always near the beach or around water, and I think that definitely influences the color palettes, jewelry, and other designs that I create for Made By Megan.
After starting my small business in 2020 and continuing to build the venture through the end of high school, I knew that I wanted to study a topic in the business field in college. In addition to making the pieces themselves, I loved creating posts for my business’s social media, and thought that choosing a concentration in Marketing would be the perfect fit for me!
Everything I saw about the brand on social media drew me to apply to be a Creator, as I knew I’d be able to find community through the program.
I was able to participate in a pop-up with other Creators at our school’s back-to-school celebration alongside many other vendors!
For the past three semesters, I have served as Marketing Manager, creating posts for social media as well as capturing product photos for student-creators in the program. I am excited to continue in this role, as it has given me insight into design platforms such as Canva, and has strengthened my social media skillset, which is something that I can continue to use throughout my career.
The networking and technical skills that Student-Made at NC State has helped me to build are things that I will use well after graduating. Through my work as the Marketing Manager for my campus, I hope to leave each Creator I work alongside with a strong sense of confidence in their products and business as a whole.
Being a part of this program has also taught me how to balance both school and my business, and I plan to continue looking to my environment for inspiration for Made By Megan as I have since the start.
