COMMUNITY STORIES: MADISON BANE
I’m pursuing a BBA in Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness and a double minor in Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Marketing.
This is my second year in this role! This opportunity has allowed me to grow toward my ambitious dream of owning a business one day, likely in the marketing field. I look forward to continuing to grow personally and professionally with Student-Made Loyola Maryland until I pass the torch to a new Campus Manager upon graduation.
I am fascinated by the process of taking a business idea and making it a reality, whether that be to solve an issue, make a lasting impact, or simply make others happy.
It’s a blessing and a curse, but I can't help but put 110% into everything I do because I care deeply about always putting my best foot forward. I love working with others in a hands-on environment.
In any job I’ve ever had, I have the most fun getting to know lots of different people and observing what they do and why they do it. The little things people often miss could be the most important in understanding others. Figuring out the best ways for people to collaborate and reach their full potential together is fun for me, like a puzzle.
I want to be the business leader who looks out for the little guy and breaks the stereotype of CEOs being scary, ingenuine, or disconnected from their employees. I always want people to know they can come to me for anything, work-related or personal.
I think what Student-Made does for students in a more niche field such as entrepreneurship is amazing—it gives students with big aspirations a unique opportunity to see their dreams through.
I knew immediately I wanted to be the one to lead Student-Made’s establishment and development on my home campus.
Being part of something that simulates a start-up business at the school I call home has been exceptionally rewarding. Being entrusted with fostering growth for my manager team, Student-Made’s brand, and the creators’ success has been a nerve-wracking weight to hold, but the amount of freedom I’ve been given to do what I love has been exhilarating.
Being recognized in network meetings as an exemplary new leader, having students excited to see us at the Fall Activities Fair because they’ve heard about us, and being featured as Club of the Month last May are all accomplishments that prove to me we are making a real impact.
Being able to make an impact on my community and seeing it come to fruition makes all the long hours and hard work worth it. I do what I do to help others in a field I am passionate about, and inspiring creators and managers inspires me.
I have learned how to trust myself and my judgment to spearhead business decisions for the Loyola Branch. I have realized the importance of communication and standing up for what I believe in, whether for my own sake or on behalf of my team.
Getting to know people on a deeper level, checking in on them, dissecting their head and heart, and finding out what makes them tick makes you realize how much more you have in common with others.
Being a part of a community like that is an opportunity I hope everybody gets. I hope to have portrayed my love for Student-Made and what it does for students through my leadership. After having observed what Student-Made can do at a school with 5,000 students, I can only imagine the possibilities at larger schools, and smaller ones as well.
Student-Made will inspire other ambitious students like myself and my team to take on the world and not be afraid to turn their ideas into thriving businesses, one dollar at a time.
I am so grateful for my time with Student-Made Loyola Maryland so far and cannot wait to have a successful rest of my undergraduate career helping more and more artists, future business leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
