COMMUNITY STORIES: KATELYN BUSH

I have always enjoyed crafting since I was a kid. I would set up craft stands outside my house to sell my artwork. I have always been determined and ambitious to start my own business.

I decided to attend Appalachian State University because I fell in love with the campus and the mountains. I also wanted to be close to home and in-state. The environment has influenced me as a creator because it’s very artistic, and I get inspired by the artistic creators and atmosphere.

I am majoring in digital marketing and minoring in entrepreneurship. I am drawn to this topic because I can apply it to my small business and future career. I enjoy creating content and promoting my products through social media.

I started making cups using my Cricut machine and expanded to making keychains, bookmarks, and bracelets.

I decided to start my business because I have always been passionate about crafting and selling my artwork. I wanted to share my artwork with others and spread positivity. My mom inspired me to start my business by helping me make my first cups and showing me how to use the cricut machine.

Starting my business was the hardest part because it was difficult deciding what I wanted to make and sell.

My goals within the program are to grow my business and share my artwork with others.

I have sold a lot of products and met so many amazing people. I enjoy getting to know the other creators and the customers face-to-face.

Student-Made has helped me grow my business and given me a supportive community of inspiring creators.

I hope to take the experiences from Student-Made and apply them to my future career and continue to grow my business.

I hope to stay connected with the Student-Made community after graduation, and inspire others with my story. I was nervous starting my business but you never know what you might accomplish until you try.

I would like to make custom shirts and tote bags. I expect to have many challenges expanding my business and opening my store, but I also hope to have many accomplishments. I am excited to continue growing my business!
